The Amble was established in the late 1990s to provide a medium in which tourist enterprises in the Kwazulu – Natal Midlands (outside of the well established Midlands Meander could advertise their attractions. Much of the topography of The amble comprises of montane grasslands and thornveld and we can therefore offer real ‘out of Africa’ experiences for foreign guests and local travelers alike. In fact, it would be fair to say, that the splendour and diverse beauty of the area covered by The Amble is one of the best kept secrets in Kwazulu – Natal tourism. From the outskirts of Pietermaritzburg, ‘The City of Choice’; to the historical Baynesfield and Greytown; to the neat amenities of Wartburg and Hermannsburg with their German traditions; to the krantzes and river valleys of Krantzkop and the game – filled valleys of Muden and Weenen, The Amble provides the tourist with options galore. Play golf at St Cathryns, Greytown or Wartburg. Indulge in the water sport of your choice or savour the quiet and the bird song as you fish for Bass with the world’s best at Albert Falls Dam. Fly fish for Yellowfish on remote stretches of the Mooi River at Muden. Bird and game watch and star gaze at Msinsi, Culverwood or Montello, or indeed, throughout the region. Bike and hike along quiet country roads when you stay at one of our hospitable B&Bs. Throw a party or stage a conference at one of our accommodating venues.Visit the museums of Hermannsburg and Greytown. Join in the fun at the weekly Wartburg Farmers’ Market, and annual Easter and Christmas markets. And wherever you go, listen out for the sound of Africa, and the call of the Fish Eagle, the symbol of our area.
